If you are a fan of all things Disney and are planning your wedding, you may be considering a trip to Walt Disney World for your honeymoon. Going to Disney World for your honeymoon is more common than you think! And taking a “Minnie-moon,” a shortened honeymoon while saving up for a more exotic or extravagant vacation, is growing in popularity as well. Here are my top tips to make your Disney honeymoon truly magical and guide you as you plan!

Is Disney a good place to Honeymoon?
The happiness and satisfaction you feel after your honeymoon in WDW will completely depend on you, and what you are hoping to get out of your trip. Before booking, make sure that you and your significant other are on the same page and have similar expectations. And above all, don’t worry about what others think. Your BFF who travelled to Capri, or your Aunt who spent a week in San Francisco and told you Disney is a bad idea may have different tastes and vacation styles than you do. As long as you and your new wife/husband are happy, and are excited to go to Disney, tune everyone else out!
Can a Honeymoon at Disney be Relaxing and Luxurious?
When you think of Walt Disney World, you likely think of crowds, thrilling rides, and general excitement. However, it is possible to achieve a feeling of exclusiveness, privacy, and luxury!
Even if you travel to Disney often, there are still ways to make your honeymoon feel luxurious and special. You can achieve this through planning ahead. Consider booking spa packages and massages, activities like the Wild Africa Trek in Animal Kingdom, and make reservations for dinner at special restaurants that you normally would not splurge on! (Keep reading for my top suggestions for restaurants!)
Where to stay-Hotels that will make your trip memorable!
If you have the funds, I wholeheartedly recommend staying on Disney Property. The “Disney bubble” can bring a layer of happiness and ease to your trip that you will not get from a nearby non-Disney hotel. You will receive warm greetings from staff welcoming you to the hotel, and congratulating you on your wedding as you wear anything that indicates you are newlyweds! Walking to the park, taking a ferry, or the bus, and not having to worry about driving or arranging transportation takes a weight off your shoulders as well.
TIP: Get your Happily Ever After Pin your first day so that you can feel the Disney magic!
Here are my top picks:
- Polynesian– Transport yourself to the South Pacific at the Polynesian, enjoy their little beach, and try one of the amazing restaurants.
- Boardwalk– the boardwalk is a short walk to Epcot, and has amazing nightlife on the boardwalk! Sing and dance the night away at Jellyrolls!
- Grand Floridian– take in the fireworks at Magic Kingdom from the hotel or book a massage at this luxury resort!
- Animal Kingdom Lodge– Watch animals from your balcony by booking a Savanah room view!
- Old Key West– take things slow at Old Key West, lounging in the pool, and enjoying a slow breakfast at Olivia’s.
Should you stay in a honeymoon suite?
I personally would not recommend staying in the honeymoon suite. I think that it isn’t a huge upgrade compared to normal rooms, and you can use this extra money on other splurges in the parks.
Will my Disney Honeymoon be romantic?
Your honeymoon in Disney can be as romantic as you want! How can you create romance in a theme park setting? Firstly, slow down at times! Disney can be overwhelming. You may feel as though you have to sprint from one ride to the next to experience everything. Slow down, and take time to enjoy the little things. Wander into all of the shops at Epcot, sample snacks in different areas of the parks like sorbet in France, and take lots of photos! Secondly, make time for romantic activities. Stake out a good bench and watch the sunset, and then later the fireworks show! Lastly, book a reservation at a romantic restaurant!
My recommendations for dinner? California Grill, Brown Derby, Le Cellier, Steakhouse 71, Paddlefish, The San Angel Inn, Toppolino’s Terrace, Flying Fish, or the pricey Victoria and Alberts!
I want to emphasize again, make a reservation!! Tables book up fast, and although it can be nice to be spontaneous around dinnertime you may be tired from a long day at the parks and searching for a restaurant could add an unwanted layer of stress.
Will a Disney Honeymoon get boring?
With four parks, Disney Springs, and Typhoon Lagoon if water parks are your thing, it is hard to be bored! However, if you choose to have a long Honeymoon I have a few suggestions for keeping things fresh.
Consider a split stay between two Disney hotels to keep things interesting. Swapping from a hotel like the Boardwalk to Animal Kingdom Lodge can spice things up and give you a new perspective.
Instead of hopping to a new Disney hotel, check out Universal Studios for more theme park fun!
Or, head east and stay in a beachside hotel in Florida for a total change in scenery.
What else can we do to make our Disney Honeymoon special?
Sign up for Memory Maker. It makes it so much easier to get those special pictures, and all of your photos won’t be selfies! My family splurges on Memory Maker and I’m so glad we do. The pictures and videos we get from different locations throughout the parks and on the rides are of great quality and often get framed and put up on the walls at home.
Tired of the parks but still want the Disney experience?
Consider Disney Cruise Lines! Although expensive, the Disney Cruise Line is highly rated and has so many activities and restaurants on board your honeymoon is sure to be exciting.
To wrap it all up, a honeymoon at Walt Disney World can be a truly unforgettable experience for you and your partner! With a little planning and creativity, you can have the perfect mix of fun and relaxation, filled with romantic moments that you’ll cherish forever. From staying at amazing hotels and dining at special restaurants to exploring the parks together at your own pace, your Disney honeymoon will be filled with wonderful memories.
