A trip to Ocean City, Maryland may not seem like it will break the bank, but you may find yourself quickly going over budget with all of the tourist attractions the city has to offer! You don’t need to spend a ton of money to make fantastic memories though, here are some easy, low-cost activities you and your family will love during your vacation.
Crabbing
My family always loves to go crabbing! The best part is, you don’t even need to buy a license to join in on the fun! Walmart and the local bait shops sell spools of twine with hooks on them for about $2 to string your bait (likely chicken neck!). Catch some crabs by lowering the bait into the water and pulling up when you feel a tug! If you are looking to keep your crabs, consider buying a net and bucket as well!
Visit Assateague Island
This stretch of seashore is home to pristine beaches but more importantly, wild horses! 300 wild horses roam the island, playing in the sand and water, walking alongside the roads, exploring the marshes, and creating picture-perfect memories for you and your family! Read more about my experience at Assateague Island here!
Long Beach Days!
Unlike some other beaches on the East Coast, there is no admission fee for the public beaches in Ocean City, Maryland. Bring some sandwiches, snacks, and sunscreen, and hunker down at the beach for a super low-cost day!
Ocean City Life-Saving Museum
At the end of the boardwalk, this low-cost, underrated museum sits. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for youth ages 12-18, and free for children under 11! There are free summer programs where you and your family can learn about things like the history of the surfmen, sharks, and knot tying. These programs are all included with the cost of your admission, check out a full list on the museum website!
Dolle’s Candyland
Visit the boardwalk shop where you can watch as they create fresh candy right in front of the windows! After watching, head inside and pick out a couple of saltwater taffy flavors! Then, head out to one of the benches outside and taste-test your haul of sweets.
Take in the Boardwalk Nightlife
At night, the boardwalk gets crowded and the performers come out! We enjoyed watching magicians, singers, and musicians do their thing! Look out for dolphins, we saw them two nights we were there.
That wraps up my list! I hope that you and your family have a great vacation in Ocean City Maryland and are able to save some money!
