Are you looking for an easy day trip from NYC? You can reach Tarrytown NY in under an hour from Grand Central, and the area (although hilly in spots) is walkable! Tarrytown has something for everyone with delicious food, stunning views of the Hudson River, shopping and more!
Grab a Bite!
There are so many great places to eat in Tarrytown. Local favorites include The Taco Project, Sweet Grass Grill, Bellas Restaurant, and Bistro12. Have a sweet tooth? Stop by Noble Pies or Main Street Sweets!
Shop along Main Street
Transom Bookshop, Trilogy Consignment, Flying Fingers Yarn Shop, Boundless Space, and more are all located along Main Street. These shops are great to find something for yourself, or a gift for a friend or loved one! A bit farther from Main Street is Pretty Funny Vintage, worth checking out.
Take a Walk
Although Tarrytown isn’t the Adirondacks, there are plenty of places to walk and take in beautiful sights along the Hudson River or in the woods. Tarrytown Lakes Park, Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park, and Glenville Woods Park Preserve are three great options for an easy stroll in nature. Alternatively, you can walk on the path across the Tappan Zee (Mario Cuomo) Bridge! Personally, I find the cars to be a bit loud, but it can be a nice easy walk with wheelchairs or a confined area to bike with kids with spots to rest and take in the river views.
Browse the Farmers Market
The TaSH Farmers Market runs from late May to late November every Saturday from 8:30am-1:30pm in Patriots Park. This cute farmers market has a ton of vendors and a great range of products. There is a playground here if you are bringing kids, a stage for performers, and has parking on the street or a nearby school! My one critique is that the porta potties were absolutely disgusting, but I found out after using one that most people use the library’s bathrooms just up the street.
Check out the Lighthouse
The historic Tarrytown Lighthouse was built in 1883 and has undergone recent renovations to restore the structure. Although the lighthouse is now only feet from land, it was once a half mile off of the shore! You can take in the views from the shoreline, or sign up online for a guided tour! These sell out fast, so book early!
