My family has been wanting to check out one of Walt Disney World’s newest dining locations, Roundup Rodeo BBQ, since it opened in March of 2023! This Toy Story themed barbeque restaurant caught our eye, but we had been hesitant to take the jump and make reservations for a few reasons. Here I will break down the Roundup Rodeo BBQ experience so you can decide if it is right for your trip!
We had a few concerns with Roundup Rodeo BBQ before booking that included:
- Will BBQ food be too heavy in the Florida heat?
- Will the shared food portions be large enough for a party of 5?
- Is the food and experience worth the price?
- Are they good at accommodating food allergies? (This concern is addressed in my Allergy Friendly Review of Roundup Rodeo BBQ here!)
Let’s see how Roundup Rodeo BBQ did on these concerns.
The Roundup Rodeo Rundown
Our reservations were set for dinner. When we saw that the portions were family style, and that the price point was the same for lunch and dinner, we figured dinner would be a better option for us, allowing us to indulge without worries of it weighing us down while power walking to make a show time like the Stunt Spectacular!
We figured that in Hollywood Studios, we could have a full meal around 6:30PM and after dinner, waddle our stuffed bodies across the park to see Fantasmic.
All was well, until a flight got moved and we found ourselves bumping the reservation up to lunch!
So off we went, to join Woody and Friends for a mid-day feast at the Rodeo!
The Atmosphere
Walking inside, you are immediately transported into Andy’s rodeo, with large displays of familiar characters and toys! Younger guests even have the option to giddy up to your table on a hobby horse! Like other Disney restaurants such as the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, Space 220, or Cinderella’s royal table, the theming at Roundup Rodeo is perfect! (Note that there are no windows once you enter inside!)
Your waiter stays perfectly in character throughout the meal, guiding you through the meal selection process, and there are interactive opportunities during your visit that makes you feel like you are a toy! It is a fun experience and something really different! This is not a character dining location, but the extremely immersive theming may make up for that for the hard core Toy Story fans in your group.
The Grub
Now let’s get into the food! As I mentioned earlier, you can check out my allergy friendly review of Roundup Rodeo here. (Spoiler alert- they were fantastic!) At the time of writing this post, the prices were $45 a person for adults, and $25 per child. Was the food worth the price?
To start, the table was given a large basket of The Prospector’s Homemade Cheddar Biscuits with Sweet Pepper Jelly. These were a big hit at our table, and the jelly was surprisingly delicious!
Next up were the salads! The Rootin’ Tootin Tomato Salad, Rex’s Romaine and Kale Salad, and Wheezy’s Watermelon Salad served for the table were both refreshing and light!
Finally, the main course! The main platter (there is a plant based platter as well) contains Evil Dr. Smoked Ribs, Buttercup’s Beef Brisket, There’s a Sausage in my Boot-Fire-grilled Pork Sausage, BBQ Chicken-with Style!, and the Buckin’ Baked Beans. It doesn’t stop there though!
We got to pick sides as well! Each table gets four. Our table ordered the Slinky Doooooog’s Mac & Cheese, Potato Barrels, Force Field Fried Pickles, and Campfire-roasted Vegetables. Other options include the Mean Old Potato Salad, Cowpoke Corn on the Cob, and The Claw! Veggie Slaw.
I loved the dessert portion of this dining experience! They are called “Chuckwagon Desserts” and each guest gets to choose one pie-in-a-jar! With so many different opinions and preferences in our group, I loved that everyone got to choose their own. The options are Bo’s Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake, Billy’s Chocolate Silk Pie, Goat’s Apple Pie, Gruff’s Peach-Strawberry Pie, or a Cupcake a la Forky (For Lil’ Riders)!
Is Roundup Rodeo worth the price?
Even though the restaurant was full of people, all of our food came out quickly, and hot! The BBQ food was delicious and not too heavy for the Florida heat. The portions were quite generous, and our party of 5 was happy with the amount of food we received. The sporadic entertainment scattered throughout the meal was fun and engaging!
Last but not least, we wanted to ensure they could accommodate our food allergies. And Roundup Rodeo BBQ didn’t disappoint. They were mighty fine in addressing our concerns and providing safe options that were just as tasty as everything else.
In short, we had a rootin’ tootin’ blast at Rodeo Roundup BBQ and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good time and some finger-lickin’ good grub. I likely wouldn’t make this a repeat restaurant on one trip due to the limited menu and higher price point, but would go back in the future!
