Looking for something to do in Albany, NY? Consider soaking in a bit of Capital Region history by visiting Schuyler Mansion.

Schuyler Mansion was home to Philip Schuyler, a Revolutionary War Major General, and his family. The mansion, built on a hill which overlooks the Hudson River, is still standing today, tucked away in Albany near the Empire Plaza and New York State Museum.

The visitor center had exhibits that provided a great background before heading into the mansion. We learned a great deal about the Schuyler family and the history of the property, which once spanned over 80 acres. It was hard to imagine downtown Albany undeveloped!
Once inside the mansion, you will get to enjoy the beautiful architecture and decor of each room. Our favorite room was the green room!

We visited during the 4th of July Celebration, while the house was open. There were plenty of activities and stalls set up that made us feel like we had stepped back in time! Candle dipping, old-timey games, and tin crafts were just some of the offerings available.
If possible, try to line up your visit with an event! If you can’t visit during an event, visit from mid-May through October, when visitors can enjoy guided tours of the mansion. (Event info can be found on the Schuyler Mansion Website here!)

There are restrooms; however, there is only a single stall! Keep that in mind if you are visiting on a busy day.
Overall, I truly enjoyed our trip to Schuyler Mansion. I would expect to spend about 1.5 hours here. Soak in the history, the beautiful mansion interior, and a view of the surrounding area!
